Course content
1. Founding the University of Prague - the first Czech or the first German university? 2. Kutná Hora Decree, its impact and interpretation 3. Position of the Prague university in the context of the Central Europe, from Hussite movement to Bílá hora battle. 4. Klementinum academy and university in the hands of Jesuits 5. Enlightement reformation and the beginnings of education based on national languages. 6. Czech-German rivalry and division of the university in 1882 7. Nacionalism and antisemitism in the Prague universities 8. German university under the swastika and its dissolution in 1945 9. Post-war development of the Charles University and the contemporary interpretation of its history - returning from nationalism back to universalism? 10.-12. Carolinum field trip 13.
