The aim of the course is to enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the development of Islamic thinking and practice since the end of the 19th century to the present, with an emphasis on the development of Islamic visions, programs and movements with political aspirations. In this framework, students learn about the main spiritual and related political streams or trends, they get a closer idea of the main characters of this period, about specific starting points and projects. The specifics of various not only Middle Eastern religious scenes are discussed, different variants of typologies of modern Islamic thinkers or activists are discussed, as well as related terminology. Students deepen their knowledge through reading and subsequent analysis of specific works of the authors. The course is designed for students of the post-Bachelor (Master) programme.
