Lectures: 1. A Return to Tradition - British Colonial Architecture - Socialist Realism, Italian Rationalism, Third Reich Architecture 2. The Nordic Alternative - Modernism for Export 3. A Reassessment of Modernism - New Brutalism 4. Czechoslovakia: Socialist Realism - Brussels 5. New Urbanism, New Cities (Brasília, Chandigarh) - Housing Estates 6. Structuralism - Phenomenology 7. Czechoslovak Architecture of the 1960s: Machonin et al. 8. Technology, Construction, Utopia: Prouvé - Fuller - Archigram, et al. 9. Machine-Age Architecture - High-Tech 10. Postmodernism - Deconstructivism 11. Minimalism - Critical Regionalism - Sustainability 12. Digital, Parametric, and Emergent Architecture 13. Field Trip Seminar: The content of the seminars will be: 1) joint guided walks and tours of buildings in Pilsen 2) presentation of selected topics supplementing and deepening the topics of the lectures and subsequent discussion (each student will present one topic/personality/work during the semester, possibly also in the form of a report as part of commented walks) 3) discussion of topics from assigned texts 4) discussion of topics from screenings and documents
