Lectures: 1. Historicism 2. Biedermaier - Bent furniture (Thonet) 3. Design reform - Arts and Crafts 4. Art Nouveau (floral modernism) 5. Geometric modernism 6. Adolf Loos and the antithesis of Art Nouveau 7. Cubism and Expressionism 8. Between artistic craft and industry (Deutscher Werkbund, Wiener Werkstätte, Artěl, Krásná jizba, Union of Czechoslovak Art) 9. National style - Decorativism - Art Deco 10. Avant-garde: Neoplasticism, Purism, Constructivism 11. Bauhaus 12. Functionalism - Minimal living, Smallest apartment, Modern apartment, Residential landscape - Public interiors 13. Field Trip Seminar: The content of the seminars will be: 1) presentation of selected topics supplementing and deepening the topics of the lectures and/or representing the current scene and subsequent discussion (each student will present one topic/personality/work during the semester) 2) discussion of topics from assigned texts 3) discussion of topics from screenings and documents 4) excursion and/or visit to the exhibition, permanent exhibitions of UPM, ZČM, NTM, etc. 5) extraordinary lecture by a visiting expert
