Course content
1. Transmission systems - structure of telecommunication network, basic principles of switching, reference model RM-OSI. 2. Digital telephone speech processing, PCM framework, signalling in telecommunication systems, plesiochronous digital hierarchy - signal multiplexing, synchronous digital hierarchy - signal mapping and data transfer, network elements, topology, fault protection. 3. Optical systems in access networks - FTTx, OAN, APON, GPON, XGPON, EFM, reference model, optical network elements, optical link power budget, traffic backup, transmission mechanisms. 4. Use of metallic technologies - parameters of metallic lines and consequences on information throughput, principles of transmission, xDSL technologies - line codes, modulation, reference model, spectral characteristics, achieved parameters. 5. Mobile wireless technologies.
