Course content
|
The subject aims to teach the students how they can apply their linguistic knowledge in the language classroom. It is divided into four blocks - phonetics, phonology and pronunciation teaching; morphology, syntax and the teaching of English grammar; lexicology and how to teach vocabulary; and finally, text level, fluency development and working with spoken and written texts. In each block, students are reminded of key terms within the discipline and are given practical tasks to practise what they had learned in linguistics courses. The focus then shifts to language teaching and students think about the practical use of linguistic knowledge in their own teaching practice. They brainstorm activities focusing on each aspect (e.g. teaching stress patterns or linking, teaching verb tenses, teaching vocabulary or developing fluency) and are also given tips from the teacher.
