Course content
Lecture topics 1. Basic concepts of general psychology - psychic phenomena, constructs and mental representations, models of the human psyche. Determination of the human psyche. 2. Consciousness and unconsciousness, control of the human psyche, sleep and dreaming. 3. Sensory processes and perception. Attention - types and properties of attention. 4. Memory - memory models, long-term memory, forgetting. 5. Learning - innate types of learning, classical conditioning, instrumental and operant conditioning, learning by insight, social learning. 6. Imagination processes - imagination and fantasy, daydreaming, imagination disorders. 7. Thinking - types of thinking, thought operations, reasoning, decision-making, problem solving, magical thinking. Language and thinking - properties of natural languages, thinking and speech. 8. Emotions - physical and expressive components of emotions, feelings, theory of emotions, functions of emotions. 9. Motivation - self-preservation motives, incentive motives, implicit motives, explicit motives, complex theory of motivation, attributional theory of motivation. 10. Personality structure. 11. Dynamic personality traits, temperament, basic typology. Character and self-regulatory traits. 12. Performance personality traits, abilities and their types, intelligence. 13. Personality in challenging life situations, principles of mental hygiene, system of psychological counseling.

Learning activities and teaching methods
  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 28 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 20 hours per semester
  • Contact hours - 52 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 30 hours per semester

- define the subject of general psychology - define psychological processes, states, properties - explain the functioning of individual cognitive processes - describe the concept of personality, clarify the basic approaches to its research - explain the main models of personality determination - characterize the individual components of personality - explain basic knowledge about the formation of personality in challenging life situations
Skills
- use the terminology of general psychology and personality psychology correctly - find connections between general psychological categories - apply non-standardized methods for determining the state of cognitive processes - perform self-reflection of one's own personality, i.e. describe and critically evaluate the results of non-standardized techniques aimed at self-knowledge - recognize possible factors determining the development of some of one's personality traits, distinguish traits inherited from ancestors from traits acquired during development - apply theoretical knowledge about coping with challenging life situations when solving them in one's own life
