Course content
Lectures: 1. Introduction - history of the field, anatomy and skin physiology, classification of burns. 2. Setting of extent, depth and criteria determining seriousness of a burn trauma. 3. Specifics of burns in side age groups - children, patients of higher age. Causes of burns, epidemiology, prevention. 4. Rules of first aid and urgent pre-hospital care. 5. Shock phase of burn disease, complications, intensive care. Treatment of high burnt person. 6. Surgical interventions in the shock phase, securing of venal entries in burnt persons. 7. Urgent phase of the burn disease, types of burn treatment, local therapy. 8. Surgical interventions in the burnt patients. Skin shields and their replacements, skin bank. Care of a burnt patient. 9. Special types of burn trauma. 10. Rules of reconstruction, rehabilitation, care of scars, psychosocial issues. 11. Excursion to FH Královské Vinohrady - Burn medicine clinic.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
  • Contact hours - 10 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 30 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report) (1-10) - 15 hours per semester

learning outcomes
A graduate will be after passing this course able to provide first aid in extensive burns and he/she will be also able to provide good basic care of burnt patients.
