Course content
Lectures 1. Introduction to the field of balneology and balneotherapy. Traditional procedures in spas. General indications and contraindications. 2. - 3. Natural mineral waters - definition, division and classification, medicinal effects. General rules of drinking treatment. Hydrotherapy, hydrokinesiotherapy, special indications and contraindications. 4. Radiotherapy, radon waters. 5. - 6. Thermotherapy and cryotherapy: effects, indications, contraindications. Peloids - definition, mechanism of action, clinical effects. 7. Spring gas - definition, mechanism of action, clinical application. 8. - 9. Climatotherapy - conditions, characteristics, effects of individual components on humans. Effective complexes of climatic effects. Inhalation natural mineral waters. PLZ repetition. 10. Physical therapy - indications and general contraindications, division. 11.- 12. Electrotherapy - basic information on direct and alternating current therapy. 13. Pulsed magnetic field, special indications and contraindications, principles of operation. 14. Phototherapy - classification, laser, special indications and contraindications, principles of operation. Ultrasound - effects, indications, contraindications. 15. Management, legislation, ethics, medical law, rehabilitation organization, teamwork. Suitable and unsuitable combinations of procedures. Repetition of FT. Exercises 1. Baths, general information, principles of operation - total and partial baths, half baths, sitz baths. 2. Whirlpool baths, bubble baths, underwater massages. 3. Classical hydrotherapy according to Niepel. 4. Peloid, gas, air, steam baths. 5. Traditional balneology procedures - wiping, washing, brushing, wraps. 6. Priessnitz procedures, wraps. 7. Kneipp cure. 8. Showers, sprays. 9. - 10. Methods of application of natural mineral waters. 11. Spring gas. 12. Peloids. 13. Climatotherapy. 14. Inhalation treatment with natural mineral water. 15. Drinking cure.

  • Contact hours - 45 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 20 hours per semester
