Course content
Lectures: 1.Disease and its causes. Etiology and pathogenesis of a disease. Physical causes of a disease. Chemical causes of a disease. Genetically conditioned diseases. Pathological immune response. 2. Death of an organism and death of a cell (necrosis and apoptosis). Types of necrosis and its healing. Heart attack- definition, types. Gangrene. Atrophy. 3. Dystrophy resulting from disorders of protein metabolism. Inclusion. .Amyloidosis. Diabetes mellitus. Pigmentation. Icterus - jaundice ( causes, types). 4. Inflammation, types of inflammation, microscopic and macroscopic findings. Specific inflammations. Total infection.( bacteraemia, sepsis, pyemia). 5. Progressive changes. Regeneration. Reparation. Hypertrophy, hyperplasia. Metaplasia, dysplasia and precanceroses. 6. Introduction to oncopathology. General characteristics of tumors. Morphology of tumors. Features of malignant tumors at a cellular level. Classification of tumors. Grading, paging. Tumor markers -diagnostic, prognostic and predictive. Benign and malignant mesenchymal tumors. Hematologic tumors. Benign and malignant epithelial tumors. 7. Causes and manifestation of circulatory insufficience. Thrombosis. Haemorrhage, haemorrhagic diathesis. Embolism. 8. Pathology of cardiovascular system. Diseases of heart and vessels. 9. Pathology of respiratory system. 10.Pathology of gastrointestinal system. Diseases of liver, pancreas, gall bladder, and bile ducts. 11. Pathology of kidneys and excretory system. Pathology of prostate. 12. Pathology of male and female reproductive system. Diseases of mammary gland. 13.Pathology of nervous and endocrine system. Diseases of locomotive system. Seminars: Practical lessons are aimed at demonstration of macroscopic and microscopic imaginations of selected pathological units. Topics of practical lessons follow lectures. 1.Methods of harvest and processing of material for pathological examination. 2.Cytologic examination. 3.Morphological characteristics of regressive changes. 4.Morphological characteristics of progressive changes. 5.Morphological characteristics of inflammation. 6.Morphological characteristics of tumors I. 7.Morphological characteristics of tumors II. 8.Morphological changes in circulatory disoders. 9.Histopathology of heart and vessels diseases. 10.Histopathology of diseases of respiratory system. 11.Histopathology of diseases of gastrointestinal system. 12.Histopathology of diseases of excretory and reproductive system. 13.Histopathology of diseases of CNS and diseases of thyreoid gland.
