Course content
Lectures The emergence and development of evidence-based practice. Definition of the concept of evidence-based medicine, or EBN - historical development and modern trends. Current scientific discourse in nursing. Current state of use and development of evidence-based practice. Advantages and pitfalls of evidence-based practice. The term "records". Searching for appropriate scientific sources according to the Haynes classification (Haynes pyramid). Quality of information obtained. Importance of review studies for EBN/EBP. Clinical guidelines. Internet resources for medicine and healthcare. Citation standards and tools for effective work with the citation apparatus (e.g. EndNote and EndNote Web). Ethics and citation technique, citation responses, bibliometrics - Bibliometric tools for evaluating the quality of professional journals and the author's publishing activities. The issue of predatory magazines. Seminars Practical exercise: - formulation of the main question based on the PICO/PICo framework - searching for relevant sources of information, critical evaluation of found scientific works in terms of usability and the possibility to state a conclusion - search strategy and creation of keywords; Internet search engines; Google Scholar; the quality of the information obtained Work with selected databases - practical search for specific evidence, types of research studies and relevant databases: - search in the collective catalog of the ZČU - practical examples of searching in full-text databases. E-books and e-magazines at ZČU. - specialized databases for medicine and healthcare: examples of work with the bibliographic databases Medvik and PubMed, examples of the search procedure - samples of work with Scopus and Web of Science databases - searching for essential sources of scientific articles in the platforms of citation and abstract databases (e.g. Web of Science, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Nursing Ovid, PubMed, Cochrane) and journals (Evidence Based Medicine, etc.) Presentation of the student's independent work on a set topic from nursing
