Course content
Diabetes mellitus. Etiology, classification, clinical picture, diagnosis. Treatment options. Acute and chronic complications of diabetes. Selfmonitoring. Metabolic syndrome. Prevention of complications. Specialized nursing care for patients with diabetes: assessment of patient needs, determine the nursing problem. Plan nursing interventions. Education in self-monitoring, insulin therapy, treatment with oral antidiabetic drugs, prevention of complications, physical activity. Cooperation with nutrition therapist in dietotherapy. Consultancy. Podiatry. Diabetic foot syndrome. Classification of diabetic foot syndrome. Screening of diabetic foot syndrome. Prevention, diagnosis, treatment options (general principles relief treatment, diabetic shoes and its specifics, contact a special fixation). Growth factors and skin transplants. Prevention of diabetic foot syndrome. Surgical treatment of diabetic foot syndrome: Venous angioplasty artery revascularization diabetic foot amputation performances. Options prosthetic care. Specialized nursing care in diabetic foot syndrome. The pathophysiology of wound healing. Classification wounds - Rating Scale. Factors influencing wound healing. Evaluation of the wound, eliminating settlement germs. The principle of treating chronic wounds, the wound base redevelopment, promotion of wound healing. Appropriate choice of cover materials, larvoterapie. Plan nursing interventions, education of regime measures and implementation options.

Basic knowledge of terminology field, knowledge of anatomy, physiology and human biology, knowledge of internal propedeutics.

Graduates: - Propose and evaluate interventions within nursing care for patients with diabetes mellitus. - Compiled nursing care plans and educational plans. - They are able to independently and responsibly make decisions in the context of the nursing care of patients with diabetes mellitus. - Apply the principles and nursing care for patients with diabetes mellitus. - They are able to recognize acute conditions associated with diabetes mellitus and appropriately intervene in first aid. - Performs preventive and therapeutic interventions for the treatment of diabetic foot and wound care nursing. - Educate patients and family members in areas related to the issue of diabetes mellitus.
