Course content
Delivery room - admission of a woman with physiological labour and high-risk pregnancy - external obstetric examination and evaluation of management of the first stage of labour - management of the first phase of labour in women with physiological labour with mentor help - management of the second phase of labour in women with physiological labour with mentor help - care of a woman in the third and fourth stages of labour - maternal injury treatment with mentor help - neonatus treatment under mentor supervision Gynaecology department - patient admission, transfer and release - preoperative preparation - early postoperative care in recovery room - patient mobilisation and rehabilitation - surgical wound care, stitches extraction - drainage maintenance - permanent urinary catheter maintenance, diuresis measurement - dietary regime - care of bladder emptying Puerperium department - nursing process for women with physiological and pathological puerperium - care of breast feeding women - care of women with lactation disorders care of women after surgical delivery

The students are capable of - analyzing independently the needs of a pregnant woman, a woman in labour, a puerpera and a newborn - finding the main nursing problems, determining diagnoses and preparing a nursing plan - applying their theoretical knowledge to practice - selecting the correct procedure for conducting phases I, II, III and IV of labour - educating a client about non-pharmacological methods of pain management - educating a client about a healthy lifestyle in respect both to her health condition and her condition as a whole - performing practically an examination of a pregnant woman, a woman in labour, a puerpera and a newborn. - finding risk factors and pathological conditions - operating in the area of prevention
