Key learning outcomes The graduates of this programme will be versed in linguistic disciplines. They demonstrate an understanding of language as a system consisting of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, lexis, pragmatics, and discourse. They understand the dynamics of development of the individual language plans as well as language and contemporary trends in the Czech language as a whole. They demonstrate capability to analyze linguistic features of the text. They demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the basic literature of the field. Their own work both engages with the known literature and experts in the field. They are capable to properly assess and interpret the effects of pupils' oral or written communication. They are capable to orient pupils on function of verbal communication (to teach them to select means according to the purpose of communication, context, and addressee). The graduates respect educational principles in their educational practice. They choose teaching methods properly according to educational aims. They are capable to transform their content knowledge into pedagogical content knowledge. The graduates demonstrate a basic knowledge of literary theory; they demonstrate their knowledge of the development of Czech literature from earliest times to the present. The graduates demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of world literature. They realize its developmental and typological parallels with Czech literature. They are master of text interpretation. They take into account specificity of pubescent and prepubescent readers. They are competent to Common European Framework level B2 in one foreign language. They achieve proficiency in the use of standard information and communication technology in their educational practice. They are capable to react flexibly to changes of educational conception of Czech language teaching at lower secondary schools.

Profile of the programme This study programme is designed as an academic one. It consists of blocks of theoretical courses in linguistics, literary history, literary science, Czech language didactics, and educational-psychological disciplines. At the same time, it comprises a block of courses focusing on exploiting theoretical background in practice and on acquiring skills that the graduate can apply as a teacher of Czech langure and literature at basic school. The programme also includes practical training. The graduates are primarily prepared for the direct entry to the practise as the teachers of Czech language and literature at basic school.
