Course content
The course includes these items: 1. Introduction to the homeland study. Familiarization with scientific, methodological and regional literature. Scientific and methodological journals. 2. Maps and Plans. 3. National History and Geography of a local region. 4. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / Location, Czech statehood, the division of the state /. 5. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / terrain, climate /. 6. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / waters, mineral resources /. 7. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / population and settlement /. 8. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / economy - agriculture, forestry and water service /. 9. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / industry /. 10. Geographical and historical characteristics of the CR / transport and services / 11. CR within Europe, neighbouring states, fundamental information about the world. 12. Neighbouring states - more detailed geographical and historical characteristics. 13. Environmental protection, child?s orientation in time, important historical events, personalities and sights in relation to teaching National History and Geography in primary schools, child?s orientation in value system and political organization of society.

  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 50 hours per semester

Knowledge
To pass the course students are expected to have basic knowledge of pedagogy and psychology.
learning outcomes
Students: - grasp the importance of homeland study for initial child?s orientation in the world (both natural and socio-economic components) and the formation of his worldview; - grasp the educational potential of the homeland curriculum and the need for its use in school practices; - are able to assess an appropriate selection of examples of a local region (concerning particular cross-curricular subjects); - grasp the need of fundamental knowledge of national history and geography of a place of residence, a local region and other regions, of the Czech Republic, European States and the world generally for further study and the work of teacher; - acquire fundamental terminology and skills needed to teach National History and Geography; - grasp the basic patterns and relationships related to National History and Geography curriculum (findings selection of natural and social sciences, which create integrated view on a particular area); ? are able to work with cartographic material and digital maps and use them in teaching at a primary school; - are able to orientate themselves in the field according to plans, maps, a compass, GPS, landmarks and further knowledge; - are able to create simple plans, route sketches, panoramic sketches, etc..; - are able to cope with didactic transformation and methodical figuration of curriculum; - are able to identify the problems of regions of different hierarchical levels and utilize them educationally in didactic transformation of curriculum (e.g., multicultural education, education for sustainable development and etc..); - grasp the concept ?genius loci?; - are conscious of necessity of educational influence on students toward building a positive relationship to the home-place, the local region and the whole Czech Republic; - are able to create PowerPoint presentation of a selected region and use it to present the curriculum in the school or present the region for public; - cope with evaluation in terms of the subject and as well with self-reflection and self-evaluation.
