Course content
This course consists of these issues: Biosphere and its relations with other geospheres, cycles of fundamental elements and substances in the global Earth system. Ecological biogeography, organism and environment, biocenosis, ecosystem, migration, geobiomes and their distribution on the Earth. Changes in the distribution of organisms on the Earth with regard to changing environmental conditions. Pedosphere and its relations with other geospheres. The basic components of soil, pedogenesis. Properties of soils, soil forming processes, a soil structure, soil types and styles, soil profiles and horizons. Soil distribution on the Earth in relation to geobiomes. Changes in the soil distribution on the Earth with regard to changing environmental conditions, permafrost. Georelief as a point of an intersection of geospheres. Fundamental paradigms and research methods in geomorphology. An influence of geological structure on georelief. Dynamic geomorphology - gravitational, fluvial, periglacial and glacial forms. Changes of geomorphological processes with regard to changing environmental conditions.

Knowledge
To join the course students are expected to have basic knowledge of natural sciences at high school level and it is recommended to have accomplished the courses KGE/GELA, KGE/FG1 or KMA/APA
learning outcomes
After completing the part of biogeography students are able to: - explain how ecological factors affect the distribution of organisms on the Earth; - distinguish the main geobiomes with regard to the prevailing ecological factors; - analyze changes in the distribution of organisms on the Earth with regard to changing environmental conditions. After completing the part of pedogeography students are able to: - identify fundamental factors affecting the soil distribution on the Earth; - explain the process of pedogenesis and the resulting classification of soils; - distinguish the main soil types; - compare the distribution of geobiomes and the main soil types; - analyze changes in the distribution of soils on the Earth with regard to changing environmental conditions. After completing the part of geomorphology students are able to: - explain the fundamental paradigms of geomorphology and the main methods of geomorphological research; - distinguish the main structural, gravitational, fluvial and glacial landforms; - analyze changes in the distribution of geomorphological processes with regard to changing environmental conditions.
