Course content
Three days laboratory course during weekend. Students work in small groups, fulfil the exercises, and assess the results (some of the exercises is assessed for the whole practicum). List of exercises: 1 - Allelopathy influencing the Lepidium sativum germination 2 - Starch synthesis evidence in the assimilating plant organs 3 - Transpiration rate 4 - Stomata opening as a result of the turgor in the guard cells 5 - Ethylene influencing plant seedling growth 6 - Photosynthetic pigments extraction and chromatography on chalk stick 7 - Plant cell destruction by frost and role of cryoprotectants

Knowledge
Know water regime of plants at the tissue, organ, individual and ecosystem level.
Describe freeze impact on plant body including possible plant adaptation preventing freeze damage.
Describe interspecies relation including physiological mechanisms using allelopathy as an example.
Describe primary and secondary stages of photosynthesis including role of photosynthetic pigments.
Explain role of plant hormones effects using ethylene as an example.
Skills
be able to verify theoretical information using planned experiment
relate observations from an experiment to theoretical knowledge from former study
assess experiment results regard to theoretical knowledge from former study
hypothesize experimental results in concrete situation
present own experimental results and interpret it according to the knowledge of plant physiology
