Course content
Current approaches to teaching and learning English to children in primary classes. Teaching language systems and skills - mainly listening comprehension of foreign texts; speaking with support; beginning reading and writing in a foreign language; integrating the skills. Using cross-curricular links. Using games, stories, rhymes and drama activities in English lessons.

Seminar
  • Contact hours - 22 hours per semester
  • Graduate study programme term essay (40-50) - 30 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report in a foreign language) (10-15) - 4 hours per semester

enrolled in teacher training programme; use English at CEFR B2 language level (Common European Framwork of Reference for Languages.
learning outcomes
get acquainted with the specifics of working with young learners; get familiar with educational documents obligatory for the teaching of English at primary school.
Skills
analyze the National Educational Framework (RVP ZV - for primary education) with regards of the expected learners' outcomes and content; correctly assess and interpret pupils needs and abilities and choose relevant and appropriate teaching techniques and procedures; prepare English lessons with various topics developing language skills and language systems; prepare English activities using puppets, stories, songs, rhymes and games.
