Course content
Basic topics: 1) Basic characteristics of the Chalcolithic 2) Role of copper in the Chalcolithic society 3) Residential areas and forms of settlement 4) Chalcolithic agriculture 5) Burial rites 6) Supra-community areas - the significance of ditch enclosures 7) Violence and warfare in the Chalcolithic 8) Exploitation of raw materials and long-distance contacts 9) Drinking rituals 10) Clothing, costume and identity 11) Chalcolithic society

Learning activities and teaching methods
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 15 hours per semester

To summarize the issue of archaeological resources and their importance for understanding and reconstructing of life conditions in the Bohemian Eneolithic, and, partially, in Europe
To summarize of the chronology of Eneolithic in Bohemia and Central Europe
To summarize the status of preserved immovable monuments of the monitored period
To summarize material culture in the Bohemian Eneolithic
To have an overview of settlement strategies of individual archaeological cultures
To give examples of symbolic human behaviour in the Eneolithic, and its archaeologically intelligible manifestation
To characterize the source base for the observed period

To assign the artefacts forming the basic part of material culture in the monitored periods chronologically
