Course content
The course focuses on the methodology of field research and its application to various types of archaeological sites where the context of the finds is disrupted and the individual finds are isolated (traditional archaeological excavations). The course will familiarize students with the conditions under which the application of this approach is either possible or necessary (the issue of endangered localities etc.). The course includes the practical training in methods of documentation of the archaeological context, finds, and samples of various kind (viz Courseware).

  • Contact hours - 39 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 50 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 15 hours per semester

To summarize the issues and methods of a non-destructive survey of past cultural landscape, and to formulate questions related to a non-destructive survey of different kinds of archaeological situations
To give examples of the possibilities of interdisciplinary collaboration using non-destructive methods of archaeological research
To summarize the issues of surface exploration, aerial prospecting, remote sensing, geophysics and geochemistry in archeology
To outline the origin of archaeological sources and their transformation

To be able to apply the basic methods of a non-destructive survey during a historic landscape survey, and to interpret the results
