Course content
Syllabus of lectures: Introduction. Enzymes. Thermodynamics. Transfer and storage of energy, high-energy compounds. Metabolism of saccharides. Metabolis and transport of lipids. Metabolism of amino acids, porfyrins a nucleotides. Integration of metabolism, mutual conversions of different metabolites. Acid-base and ionic equilibrium. Organ biochemistry (digestive system, liver, kidney, muscle, connective tissue, nerve tissue). Introduction in hematology. Composition, formation and function of blood. Blood clotting, hemofilia and trombofilia. Blood groups and blood transfusion. Pathological processes, laboratory manifestation of selected diseases. Syllabus of practical excercises: Basic biochemical examination and the interpretation of results. Basic procedures in the biochemical laboratory, the biochemical examination at the bad side and in the office. Taking of blood and other biological fluids. Basic examination of blood. Special examination of blood.
