Course content
Lectures 1. Laboratory examination for diabetes. Diagnosis of diabetes, determination of glucose, glycated hemoglobin, albuminuria. Complications of diabetes. Diabetes and pregnancy, other causes of hypo- and hyperglycemia. 2. Laboratory examination for liver disease. Differential diagnosis of hyperbilirubinemia. 3. Laboratory signs of malignant neoplasm. 4. Clinical-biochemical examination of the digestive tract. Parenteral and enteral nutrition from the point of view of clinical biochemistry. Investigation and monitoring of nutritional status. Malnourished. Obesity. 5. Laboratory examination during pregnancy. Adaptation reaction of the body to pregnancy, changes in physiological ranges laboratory tests in pregnancy, diagnostic use of laboratory examination in pregnancy. Peculiarities laboratory investigation in childhood and old age. 6. Cerebrospinal fluid examination. 7. Hormones. General information on metabolism and determination of hormones, hypothalamic and pituitary hormones, thyroid hormones glands, adrenal cortex, sex hormones, tissue hormones. 8. Trace elements. Iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), selenium (Se) and other trace elements. Vitamins. 9. - 11. Modern trends in clinical biochemistry. Automation and integration of the laboratory process, consolidation of laboratories, centralization and POCT, the concept of evidence-based medicine, personalized medicine. Certification and accreditation laboratories, correct laboratory work. A Lab exercise 1. - 4. Laboratory examination for kidney disease, functional tests including calculations. 5. - 8. Hereditary disorders of metabolism. 9. - 11. Functional tests in clinical biochemistry.

  • Contact hours - 77 hours per semester
  • Preparation for laboratory testing; outcome analysis (1-8) - 5 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 15 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 40 hours per semester
