Course content
The basis of the lessons are the lectures. The most important topics will be practiced during the laboratory practicals. Lectures: 1.Laboratory investigation in diabetes mellitus. Diagnostics of diabetes, determination of glucose, glycated hemoglobin, microalbuminuria. Diabetic complications. Diabetes mellitus and pregnancy, other causes of hypo-and hypeglycaemia. 2.Laboratory investigation in hepatic disorder. Differential diagnostics using hyperbilirubinemia. 3.Laboratory markers of tumor. 4.Clinical - biochemical investigation of gastrointestinal tract. Parenteral and enteral nutrition from an aspect of clinical biochemistry. Investigation and observation of nutrition. Malnutrition. Obesity. 5.Laboratory investigation in pregnancy. Adaptation response of organism to pregnancy, changes of physiological limits of laboratory tests in pregnancy. Diagnostic application of laboratory investigation in pregnancy. Specificity of laboratory investigation in childhood and in elderly people. 6.Investigation of cerebrospinal fluid. 7.Hormones. General knowledge of metabolism and determination of hormones. Hormones of hypothalamus, hypophysis, hormones of thyreodid gland, hormones of adrenal glands, sex hormones, tissue hormones. 8.Trace elements. Ferrum (Fe), Copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), selenium (Se) and other trace minerals. Vitamins. 9.-11. Current trends in clinical biochemistry. Automatization and integration of laboratory process, laboratory consolidation, centralization and POCT, term "evidence-based medicine", personalized medicine. Certification and accreditation of laboratories, proper laboratory work. Practicals: 1.-4. Laboratory investigation in kidney disease, function examination including calculations. 5.-8. Hereditary metabolic disorders. 9.-11. Function tests in clinical biochemistry.
