Course content
Lectures: 1.History of genetics and its division. Cell cycle and mitosis. Meiosis. Gametogenesis in male and female. 2.Structure and function of DNA. Gene and genetic information transfer. 3.Mendel's laws. Basic terms:genotype, phenotype, dominance, recessivity, homozygote, heterozygote, types of heredity. 4.Caryotype, structure of chromosome. Investigative methods in cytogenetics. Origins and types of chromosomal abberations, numerical and structural chromosomal abberations. 5.Syndromes: Down, Edwards, Patau, cat cry, Klinefelter, XYY, Turner etc. 6.Investigative methods in molecular genetics, genetic engineering. 7.Genetic advisory and prenatal diagnostics of defects and congenital disorders. 8.Genetic disorders of human metabolism, options of treatment. 9.Impact of mutagenic factors of external environment and options of testing. 10.Ecogenetics. Pharmacogenetics. Immunogenetics. 11.Progress of carcinogenesis - types of mutations in selected types of malignities. Genetics and society.
