Course content
1. Fundamentals of public health: role, function and importance for the population (introduction to the field, historical development, key concepts) 2. Demography and population structure: development, aging and challenges for public health (age pyramids, demography concepts, population aging, prediction of impacts on the health system) 3. Health care systems: structure and financing of health care in the Czech Republic and worldwide, health insurance (Types of systems, efficiency, availability, financing, insurance) 4. Determinants of health. Social determinants of health, health inequalities 5. Methods of studying the health status of the population (basic determinants and their impact on population health, methods, mandatory reporting) 6. Environmental and working environment factors (impact of air, water, noise, chemicals and working conditions on health; legislation and prevention of environmental risks) 7. Health literacy (Ability to obtain, understand and use information, models, methods of assessing the level of ZG, methods of detection, level in the Czech Republic and abroad) 8. Nutritional, financial, media and digital literacy, digital health: technologies in prevention, diagnosis and education" (importance of individual types of literacy for health, eHealth, mHealth, telemedicine, smart applications, AI in healthcare) 9. Types and levels of preventive care (primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary), dispensary (prevention, dispensary, screening, access to healthcare) 10. Health promotion and prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases (cardiovascular, metabolic and oncological diseases, health promotion) 11. Mental health and psychohygiene: strategies for managing stress and anxiety, prevention of mental illnesses, burnout syndrome, coping strategies, etc.) 12. Health protection in vulnerable population groups (children, pregnant women, seniors, people with disabilities, targeted health promotion programs) 13. Health education: programs, methods, evaluation of effectiveness (health education in schools, communities and the media; approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of preventive programs) 14. Ethics in public health and healthcare (patient rights, informed consent, ethical dilemmas, euthanasia) 15. Global health threats and international cooperation (pandemics, climate change, migration, the role of WHO and other international organizations in addressing health crises)

Learning activities and teaching methods
  • Contact hours - 30 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 20 hours per semester
