Course content
1) Opening lesson. Overview of literature to theme of middle eastern cinematography. Assignment of movies for critiques. 2) Israeli cinematography. Specific features of Israeli cinematography. Main topics that Israeli cinematography is paying attention to. Overview of the Israeli cinematography development from its beginnings until 60´s of 20th century. 3) Development of Israeli cinematography in 70´s and 80´s of 20th century. Important movies and personalities of Israeli cinematography of this period. 4) Israeli cinematography from 90´s of 20th century until the present day. Important personalities of contemporary Israeli cinematography. 5) Palestinian cinematography from its beginnings until 1987. Important movies and personalities of Palestinian cinematography of this period. 6) Palestinian cinematography from 1987 until present day. Important movies and personalities of contemporary Palestinian cinematography. 7) Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Israeli and Palestinian cinematography - comparison. 8) Iranian cinematography. Specific features of Iranian cinematography. Main topics that Iranian cinematography is paying attention to. Overview of the Iranian cinematography development from its beginning until 1979. 9) Overview of the Iranian cinematography development from 1979 until present day. Important personalities of contemporary Iranian cinematography. 10) Egyptian cinematography. Specific features of Egyptian cinematography. Main topics that Egyptian cinematography is paying attention to. 11) Development of Egyptian cinematography from half 60´s of 20th century until 80´s of 20th century. Important movies and personalities of Egyptian cinematography of this period. 12) Egyptian cinematography from 90´s of 20th century until the present day. Important personalities of contemporary Egyptian cinematography. 13) Evaluation of submitted critiques and discussion about selected movies from Israeli, Palestinian, Iranian and Egyptian cinematography.

learning outcomes
Students know the most important authors and movies of Israeli, Palestinian, Iranian and Egyptian cinematography. They criticize selected movies, set story of chosen movies into contemporary context, interpret symbolism and message of selected movies. Students identify used vehicles of expression and explain their meaning. They make comparison of middle eastern movies with movies from another regions and explain their specific features.
