Course content |
1. Definition, characteristics and segmentation of the environment. Characteristics and interest of the environment chemistry. Historical overview of development conservation and formation of the environment. Basic ecological concepts and definitions. Introduction to ecotoxicology. 2. Global environment problems. Environmental problems of Czech Republis and its individual regions. Environment and the European Union. Environmental problems in Pilsen. 3. Energy. Renewable resources of energy. 4. Waste management. 5. Atmosphere and its importance for life, sources of air pollution. Energetics and chemical industries as the air polluters. 6. The most important pollutants in the air, the development of air pollutants. Legislative aspects of air pollution. Monitoring of air pollution. Current air pollution in Czech Republic and in Western Bohemia. 7. General principles for liquidation (destruction) of air pollutants. Principles of flue gas desulphuration. 8. Procedure and results of the desulphurisation program in Czech power stations. 9. Composition and properties of natural waters, the importance of water pollution for healthy environment. Types of water. 10. Drinking treatment. Refinement of drinking water - methods and technology. 11. Sources of water pollution. Waste waters. Methods and equipments for wastewater purification (mechanical, biological, chemical procedures). Sludge management. Biogas and its utilization. 12. Excursion to the waterworks. Excursions to local sewage works in Pilsen. 13. Excursion to plant supporting (clear) air quality.
