Course content
In seminars the English scholarly texts are read and interpreted. The supervised reading is focused on acquiring terminology as well as specifics of the academic style in the humanities. Working with text is guided in Czech nevertheless students are led to be able to present the main theses of the text in English. A list of particular texts is published on the Courseware.

  • Preparation for formative assessments (2-20) - 10 hours per semester
  • Contact hours - 52 hours per semester
  • Presentation preparation (report in a foreign language) (10-15) - 10 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 38 hours per semester

Knowledge
Advanced knowledge of English language (B2) is expected. Completion of KFI/APH course is recommended.
learning outcomes
Students will be able to orient in the scholarly English texts of humanities. They will be able to summarize and express the main theses of the texts. They will be well acquainted with the English terminology in humanities. They will be motivated to use the English scholarly literature for the next study of their field.
