Course content
1) Introduction into art history, terminology, beginnings of art theory 2) Character of medieval image, religious images and iconoclasm, iconography of medieval art 3) Style analysis on medieval painting and sculpture, art historical "schools" 4) Culture history as an approach in art history, problem of perspective in art history 5) Artists as writers and their own biographies 6) New culture history, cultural anthropology of early modern Italy 7) Marginal topics in art history: research of graphic arts, hand craft 8) Art history and connoisseurship 9) Art history and museology first renaissance public galleries; museums 10) Art patronage in art history, various functions of artworks and their meaning 11) Social-economic art history, art trade 12) Theory of conservation and restauration 13) Arts and politics, art criticism
