Traditional aesthetic categories and terms of contemporary aesthetics, beauty: ancient and medieval concepts. The concept of beauty in modern era and in the 20th century, the typology of the different concepts of beauty. Sublime: the concept in antiquity and modern times. Sublime: the concept of the 20 century, converging lines of various concepts. Comic: ancient and modern concepts. Comic: the concept in the 20th century. Mimesis: ancient and medieval concepts. Mimesis: modern concepts and concepts in the 20th century. Catharsis: ancient and modern concepts. Taste: the emergence of aesthetic category, modern concepts. The concept of taste in the 20th century. Aesthetic attitude and aesthetic object: the emergence of the concept and its development in the 20th century.

Students will be able to analyse the key concepts of aesthetics and assess their importance in the history of aesthetics and philosophy. Students evaluate the importance of aesthetic categories in contemporary aesthetics. In the oral examination, the student demonstrates knowledge of one of the primary works of literature from this list: - Plato: Symposium; - Aristotle: Poetics; - Augustin: On Order; - G.E. Lessing: Laocoon, an Essay on the Limits of Painting and Poetry; - F. Nietzsche: The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music; - H. Bergson: Laughter. |
