Course content
The problem of style in the fine art. Vasari. Wickelmann. Hegel's conception of art. Wölfflin´s conception of style. Alois Riegl. Riegl´s concept of "artistic volition". The concept of "abstraction and empathy," W. Worringer. "Style and naturalism" as the results of the needs of abstraction and empathy, the applying the principles of abstraction and empathy in the development of the fine art. H. Focillon´s concept of the "life of forms", the link to thinking of H. Bergson, Focillon´s concept of style and development periods of style. Panofsky´s concept of interpretation of the fine art. Gehlen´s concept of developmental styles in the fine art. The problem of the end of art history (Belting, Lyotard).

Students will learn to use basic aesthetic concepts and categories in the field of fine art. They will be well versed in the major philosophical and aesthetic views on the fine art. They learn to work with the philosophical and art history texts. They will be able to distinguish particular artistic genres and determine their specific.
