Course content
1) What is theatre?; preliminary definitions and concepts; basic definition of performances, theater conventions, theater components 2) Two possible approaches to the theatre: authorial and receptionist 3) Theatre as imitation, mimesis and ostense 4) Theatre as a spectacle, production and performance 5) Theater and reality, reality and theatre 6) Theatre as a way of communication 7) Theatre as a play 8) Theatre as a social institution 9) Theatre artifact; theatre sign 10) Performance's creation; division of roles in theatre 11) Theatre and critical institutions 12) Theatre as a business, public cultural service and experiment; specifics of cultural policy 13) Contemporary theatre - "alternative", "new", on the border of individual artistic categories
