Course content
This course requires intermediate knowledge of English. It is assigned for Ph.D. students of the Faculty of Arts who have chosen English as a second foreign language. Students will develop skills in writing abstracts, reading and understanding authentic and professional texts in English, listening comprehension and oral presentation.

explain the basic concepts of philosophical terminology of the given source language
characterize the specifics of philosophical terminology of the given source language
describe typical genres of philosophical text in a given source language
characterize the structure of philosophical texts of individual authors writing in a given source language
Skills
search for a cited passage in a text in a given source language and verify its formal and factual correctness
find and verify in the secondary literature in the given source language a specific factual knowledge (applies only to modern languages, not to the dead languages)
find the appropriate terminology for the Czech translation in the original text in the source language and verify the adequacy and consistency of its translation

characterize the professional terminology of the given source language related to the dissertation project

interpret a specific passage of a text in the source language without the help of a Czech translation
identify the terminology used in the Czech translation of the text from the source language and critically evaluate the adequacy of its translation
