Course content
The course is designed for students who wish to complete PhD Theory and History of Science and Technology degree in the respective academic year. The State Final Exam consists of two parts: the examination from Philosophy and Methodology of Science is obligatory (Programme Basics), the examination from near branch, which on the instant is connected with topic of PhD Thesis, is optional (Sub-programme Specialization). The State Final PhD Exam is an oral exam in front of a jury, which generally lasts about 60 minutes. Defence of thesis submitted by a student is a part of it. The course and other requirements of the exam are regulated by the Study and Examination Statute of The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. During preparation for the PhD exam, candidates may use individual or group consultation meetings with guarantors of disciplines relating to the exam areas.

Knowledge
A student may take the State Final PhD Exam after he/she has met all requirements given in the curriculum design of the Theory and History of Science and Technology study field set up by the Department of Philosophy and all rules contained in the Study and Examination Statute of the University of West Bohemia.
learning outcomes
Successful completion of the PhD exam demonstrates that students acquired sufficient knowledge, skills and competence in accordance with the requirements of the Theory and History of Science and Technology study field. After graduation students are well informed of key problems of the field and they are able to continue in the further research work.
