Course content
1) What is theater? Basic approaches and perspectives. 2) Definition of the field, preliminary definitions and terms. 3) Performances, theatrical conventions. 4) Components of a theatrical work, theatrical artifact and theatrical emblem. 5) Author's and receptionist approach to the theater. 6) Theater as imitation, mimesis, ostenze. 7 Theater as a spectacle, production and performance. 8) Theater and reality, reality and theater. 9) Theater as a game and a way of communication. Theater as a social institution. 10) Theater as a business, public cultural service and experiment. 11) Contemporary theater: alternative, experimenting, on the border of individual art forms. 12) Reflections of theatrical work, criticism, theater institutions.

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the modern concept of theater and to offer various possibilities of access to research and understanding of various aspects of theatrical art. Theater is a lively and socially activating art form that requires proper conceptual grasp and reflection. In the last century, it has undergone a number of changes with dynamics that go beyond the artistic approach. The course introduces students to theater in the form of individual perspectives, which play a constitutive role in its development, operation and research. Traditional categories will be confronted with current trends and phenomena in the world of contemporary theater.

to recognize different ways of theoretical thinking about theater, play, performance, performance and signing of the theater, but also about the myth and anthropological aspects of theater or theatrical manifestations of society as they appear in European and American art and cultural discourse from the second half of the 20th century
to eflect contemporary theater practice and contemporary theatrical texts against the backdrop of the latest trends in theater theory, as they have emerged since the 1990s, especially when it comes to the theory of post-drama theater and text on the one hand, and the demand for new realism in the theater in drama on the other
