Course content
Concept of philosophy. Philosophy as metaphysics. Classification of philosophical issues and disciplines of metaphysics. The problem of ontology: Aristotle's, Kant's and Hegel's positions. Modern conception: Hartmann and Heidegger. Ontology as a theory of categories. Issues in gnoseology: The dispute over the real existence of outer world. The dispute between rationalism and empiricism, in the past and nowadays. Critical Rationalism (Hartmann, Popper). Theories of truth. Knowledge and Evaluation. (Axiology.) Thought and language. Natural philosophy as a theory of categories of natural being. (matter, motion, space, time, change, evolution etc.) Philosophical anthropology as a theory of human nature. Fundamental categories: worldliness - socialness - historicalness. Branches of philosophical anthropology. Place and role of moral awareness in human existence. Philosophy of history as a theory about history formation. Who is subject of historical process? Role of objective factors in history formation. History and freedom. History and values. Conceptions of philosophy of history: Hegel, Marx, Popper.

learning outcomes
Students will acquire general knowledge of philosophical issues - from historical as well as from thematic perspective. They will know content of the most important philosophical concepts. They will learn basic means of rational working with philosophical texts.
