Course content
Content: 1) The system of arts in the considerations of thinkers of the 18th century; fine arts and elegant arts. 2) Fine arts and considerations on beautiful sciences; final denial of beautiful sciences in Kant. 3) The emergence of the concept of plastic arts. 4) Classification of arts in the 19th century; relations among arts in Hegel and Schopenhauer. 5) Blurring the borderlines of art in the 19th and 20th century: art, handcraft, industry, and media. 6) The emergence of new arts in the 19th century: photography and cinematography. 7) New genres as peripheral cases of art: musical, operetta, comedy, popular music. 8) Definition of art in the 20th century theory: expressivity. 9) Definition of art in the 20th century theory: aesthetic experience. 10) Definition of art in the 20th century theory: symbolization. 11) Definition of art in the 20th century theory: revelation of truth. 12) Contemporary attempts to define art: relations of art to ethics. 13) Contemporary attempts to define art: intercultural imagination.
