Course content
Literature of the Belle Epoque: Proust, Gide Birth of the avant-garde (Futurism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism) Inter-war drama (Giraudoux, Cocteau, Anouilh) and absurd drama The Novel of 1st half of the 20th century: Saint-Exupéry, Malraux French existentialists (Sartre, Camus, de Beauvoir) The New Novel (Robbe-Grillet, Sarraute, Duras) The Postmodern Literature Literature of French-speaking Belgium (Yourcenar, Toussaint, Mallet-Joris, Nothomb) Literature of Quebec (Audet, Kokis, Tremblay, Poulin, Proulx) and Maghreb Contemporary French Literature (Houellebecq, Modiano etc.)

The student attains basic orientation in French literature of the 20th century to the present The student is able to correlate the discussed authors with regard to the wider European and world context

The subject presupposes knowledge of the French language at least at the CEFR level A2/B1 for languages The student is able to read with comprehension professional texts in French and English at least at level B1 of the ERR for languages

Knowledge
Students are well-informed on French literature of the 20th century until the present and Francophone literature of the same period
The student proves that he / she is well versed in ten selected works with regard to his / her qualification, ie political science and international studies
Skills
Students are able to correlate the authors with a view of larger European and global and francophone context
The student is able to interpret the discussed works at seminars and relate them to their field, ie political science. Emphasis is placed on works dealing with the problems of the globalizing world
