Course content
Light: theory of evolution. Electromagnetic spectrum. Principles of geometrical optics. Wave nature of light - interference ad diffraction effects, polarisation. Sources of light and elementary photometry. Dispersion of light. Fundamentals of physiology of sight. Selected branches of non-linear optics (holography, adaptive and gradient optics). Interesting effect in atmospheric optics.

Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture
  • Contact hours - 52 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 20 hours per semester
  • Preparation for an examination (30-60) - 60 hours per semester
  • Preparation for formative assessments (2-20) - 5 hours per semester
prerequisite
Knowledge
The knowledge of secondary school optics is assumed. The students should also be able to employ mathematical operations and methods at the level of subjects MAMEF, MPF2M and MPF3S.
learning outcomes
The students will understand the basic principles of geometric and wave optics, they will be acquainted with photometry, physiology of the eye, atmospheric optics and other areas connected with the subject.
