Course content
Overview of theoretical concepts of local and regional development, respectively municipal and regional policy. From strategic planning to strategic management of cities and regions. City and regional management: definition (specifics), objectives and instruments. Changing managerial functions and roles of local and regional authorities. Specific areas of city / regional management (decision-making mechanisms, finance, human resource, information, communication, innovation and knowledge, projects, etc.). Creation, implementation and evaluation of development strategies and projects for cities and regions. Overview of analytical, forecasting, evaluation and managerial methods. Cooperation and partnership in development of cities and regions: forms, examples, success factors. Development strategies for cities and regions - examples of good practices from the Czech Republic and abroad. Practical problems and restrictions of strategic planning and management of cities and regions: possible solutions.
