Course content
Planning theories. The planning and its social status, evolution of views on urban and regional planning in the 20th and 21st centuries. Urban planning versus development (strategic) planning. Basic planning models (integrated development planning versus incrementalism planning), the planning culture and spatial planning system in the Czech Republic and selected EU countries. Participatory planning. Ethics of spatial planning. Planning methods and procedures. Analytical methods (measuring, indicators, analyzing the impacts), forecasting methods (planning under conditions of risk, forecasts and forecasting, Delphi method, scenario building, planning games), evaluation methods (preferential matrix, relevance tree, analysis of costs and benefits, risk analysis, SWOT analysis etc.), creative methods (brainstorming, mind mapping), communication, moderation and mediation methods and techniques, monitoring, assessment and evaluation methods. The Planning methods and procedures in practice. Territorial and strategic planning at the local, regional, national and transnational (European) level. Landscape planning - specifics, objectives, legislative conditions, sources of spatial information, analytical and synthetic methods, examples of good practice, discussion of the limits of landscape planning. Trends and challenges of urban and regional development.
