Course content
City, urban region, definition of basic concepts, structures and scales. Different perspectives of interdisciplinary urban research. Emergence and development of cities (pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial phases). Theories and models of spatial organisation and development of cities and urban regions. Processes and determinants of the development of urban structures (political-administrative, normative, technological, economic, social and cultural). Metropolises and metropolitanisation processes. Concepts and discourses of urban development (sustainable city, green city, resilient city, shrinking city, urban marketing, creative city, smart city, cittaslow, "right to the city", short-distance city, post-political and post-secular city, etc.). Trends, problems, visions and utopias in the development of cities of different categories. Urban/ Metropolitan governance (actors, scales, governance structures, models, tools, examples of good practice). EU and Czech urban policy (Leipzig Charter for Sustainable Urban Development and other conceptual and strategic documents).
