Course content
1. Constitution of the Holy Roman Empire, the Frankish beginnings and the dynasty of the Ottons 2. Medieval dynasties, struggle between the Staufs and the Welfs 3. Fight for the Italy and fights with the Popes 4. The Czech Lands and the Holy Roman Empire before 1346 5. Charles IV. as an emperor, his followers 6. The Empire in the 15th Century, the Ascension of the Habsburgs 7. Charles V. and Ferdinand I, two brothers on the imperial throne 8. Rudolf II. and Prague as the center of the empire 9. The Holy Roman Empire in the Thirty Years' War 10. Wrestling of Habsburgs with Prussia, Wars of the Austrian Heritage 11. The end of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation during the Napoleonic wars 12. Cultural heritage of the Holy Roman Empire

Knowledge
a comprehensive overview of the medieval and early modern developments of Germany and other countries that were in the Holy Roman Empire, knows the imperial dynasty from Otto to the Habsburg, orientates itself in the relationship of the Czech lands to the empire
Skills
Analyze the causes of ecclesiastical schism and other contradictions within the Catholic Church. Describe the foundations of European humanism. Show contradictions and possibilities of cooperation between the medieval Czech state and the Holy Roman Empire. Justify the causes of the decline of medieval society and attempts to remedy it. Characterize medieval society and the everyday life of individual layers and didactically convincingly and objectively present a period of early modernity, write a seminar work on a specific topic.
