Course content
1. Philosophical streams of the 20th century and historiography 2. Institutionalization of historical science in modern society, the creation of a modern historical establishment, the role of the state in the system of teaching history - historical retrospection 3. Searching for the meaning of history in the 20th century: (Oswald Spengler, Ernst Troeltsch, Nikolai Alexandrovich, Pitirin Alexandrovich Sorokin, Nikolai Alexandrovich Beradayev, Arnold J. Toynbee), possibilities of didactic application 4. Searching for the meaning of history in the 20th century: (Johan Huizinga, Francis Fukuyama, Samuel P. Huntington, Paul Johnson, Michel Foucault); The Crisis of Classical Historism and New Trends in Historiography at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries; (Gustav Schmoller, Karl Lamprecht, Friedrich Meinecke, Max Weber, Jacob Burckhardt, Benedetto Croce), the possibilities of didactic application; the possibilities of didactic application 5. Understanding History, "Spirits of History" (Johann Gustav Droysen, Wilhelm Dilthey, Henri Bergson, Robin George Collingwood, Zdeněk Kalista), didactic applications 6. The importance of Annales School, its representatives, its traces of contemporary French historiography, the possibilities of didactic application 7. Structuralism and Poststructuralism in Historiography (Ferdinand de Saussure, Claude Lévi-Strauss, George Dumézil, Giles Deleuze, Michel Foucault, Ronald Barthes, Jacques Derrida, Aron Jakovlevich Gurevich) 8. American Historiography, "New History" (Charles Augustin Beard, Frederick Jackson Turner, James Harvey Robinson); contemporary American historical science, possibilities of didactic application 9. Specifics of German postwar historiography (Jürgen Kocka, Hans - Ulrich Wehler, John Greville Agard Pocock, Otto Brunner, Reinhart Koselleck and others), didactic applications 10. Postmodern challenge in historiography and return of narrative, "linguistic turn" in historiography, interdisciplinary character of modern history research (Lawrence Stone, Jean-Francois Lyotard, Hyden White, Jacques Derrida, Dušan Třeštík) 11. New currents and methods in contemporary historiography. (Carlo Ginzburg, Carlo Poni, Giovanni Levi, Hans Medick, Michel Foucault, Jacques Le Goff, Georges Duby, Peter Burke, Joan Scott, Lynn Hunt, Clifford Geertz), didactic applications; Oral History - An Old New Approach in Historiography, the Possibilities of its Didactic Application 12. Czech modern historiography (2nd half of the 19th century - present, personalities and their focus and work, institutions, magazines, historians' meetings); Czech institutions dealing with didactics of history, personalities, periodicals for school history 13. Significant international historical institutions and institutions for didactics of history, foreign and international historical and didactic history periodicals, leading historical workplaces in the world, international congresses of historians and their reference

  • Graduate study programme term essay (40-50) - 20 hours per semester

prerequisite
Knowledge
to orientate the history and philosophy of the historiography of older historical periods to the rise of the Enlightenment, to interpret the biographies and works of leading figures of the historiography of this period, to characterize the main directions and stages of the historiographical discourse of antiquity, the Middle Ages and early modern times.
Skills
to use the knowledge of older historiography as arguments for discussion and reflection on the history of newer ones, to be able to think historically, to be able to apply knowledge from the history of philosophy to understand the main developmental trends of historiography.
