Course content
1. Encyclopedias - their use for historical work, a Czech and foreign encyclopedias. Entering Task No. 1: comparison of selected password in seven encyclopedias from which at least two are foreign. 2. Working with the library catalog and SVK UWB Pilsen. 3. Bibliography and its use for historical work, types of bibliographies, basic Czech, regional, or. Foreign bibliography (mainly historical). 4. Excursion to the West Bohemian Museum (library, map collection, selected exposure). 5. Professional and popularizing magazines - the structure and the importance of magazines, basic Czech historical journals, major international historical journals. Entering Task No. 2 - characteristics of the selected journal. 6. Compilation of bibliographies, presentation of bibliographic citations. Entering Task 3: build a bibliography to historical subject selected by lot (at least ten items, including at least two studies reproduced in magazines or journals) 7. Archive manuals. Practical introduction to the editions of sources, the main editorial line. Working with local chronicles, registry office and oral testimony. 8. Excursion to the Archive of the City of Pilsen. Entering Task 4: find the answer to the question of funds archive. 9. Using the Internet in the historical work I - search sites and experts, research in electronic catalogs of Czech and foreign libraries. 10. Using the Internet in historical work II - electronic editions of sources, archivist database, publishing the results of historical research on the Internet. Entering Task No. 5: find the specific information on the Internet. 11. Basic synthesis of Czech and world history. 12. Use and formalities of scratch apparatus. 13. Assessment tasks developed and award of credits.

to demonstrate knowledge of the basic standards applicable to secondary school history at graduation level in history.
Skills
to work with professional texts at the level of graduation requirements, in Czech and at least one world language, to search in Czech and foreign encyclopedias, bibliographic databases and institutions' websites.

Knowledge
the system of archive care for springs in the Czech Republic and important world states, a system of information databases and library catalogs relevant to history, awareness of leading historical periodicals of Czech and foreign, historical terminology, methods of historian's work, species and character of historical sources, system of work of leading institutions dealing with with historical research.
Skills
Student on their own find relevant sources and literature on any historical topic, make their basic historical criticism and theory , describe the various factors of interpretation. Compares the major professional journals, using appropriate historical terminology. Applies the basic rules of professional historical writing, use correct bibliographic citation and a writing device, distinguishes sources and literature.
