Course content
1. Introduction to the elementary curriculum concerning Czech and regional history in the department; knowledge of basic literature; leading to an assessment and signature. Origins of Czech history (Saint Wenceslas in history, tradition and present time). 2. Selected questions and literature for research on the history of Early Czech History. The legend of the patriarch/forefather Čech in later chronicles and in tradition. 3. Selected questions and literature for research on the history of High Middle Ages. Society in High Middle Ages (mode of life of the three estates). 4. Selected questions and literature for research on the historic topics from 15th to 16th century. Hussite Wars in Western Bohemia, emphasis laid on Pilsen. 5. Selected questions and literature for research on the period from 1525 to the late 18th century. Early Habsburg reign period (from Ferdinand I. to Leopold II.). 6. Selected questions and literature for research on historic topics within the19th century. Famous battles in the 19th century. General history of warfare. Czechs as "warriors" and warriors according to the interpretation by historicism; the battle of Austerlitz and its traditions. 7. Selected questions and literature for research on the history of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Completion of the preceding lectures. Czechs on the Austrian side, confronting it in 1918; introduction to the Czech-German relationship. 8. Selected questions and literature for research on the history of the 20th century. Period of the First Republic with emphasis laid on the development of Czech-German relationship. 9. Selected questions and literature for research on the history of the 20th century. Second World War. Czech-German relationship; resistance movement; interpretation of the term Sudetenland in sources; the deportation of Germans, including discussion thereabout. 10. Selected questions and literature for research on historic topics within the second half of 20th century. (Stressing the fifties: processes in regional context). 11. Selected issues and literature for research on historic topics within the second half of the 20th century (from sixties to 1989; everyday life in socialism, stressing regional aspects). 12. Test- first date 13. Alternative date, registration of signatures.

Knowledge
This is implying a basic course concerning selected questions of the Czech history, and their reception in historical consciousness. Required are at least fundamental orientation in crucial questions of Czech history,moreover the capability of working independently with scientific literature and sources, as well as the willingness to take part in discussions and work within the seminar.
learning outcomes
Student (s): Can work out fundamental milestones in Czech history and their reception in historical consciousness, is able to analyze, depict and discuss them. Can get orientated in different opinions and points of view to important milestones in Czech history. Can insert domestic historical events into a broader context of European and world wide history. Can get versed about the basic concepts and substances for research connected with Czech history. Can deal with relevant sources and literature on the selected issues of Czech history.
