Course content
By a form of systematic interpretation supplemented by listening to the selected representative compositions the subject allows becoming familiar with the basic history of European and Czech music from the beginning to neoclassicism. Besides the most important figures, works and musical events of history are particularly accentuated stylistic characteristics of different ages and developmental context of the development of music in Europe and in the Czech lands, including the Czech musical development specifics. History of Music (Music Culture) are understood and interpreted as a part of the life of European society and its cultural development. Content of lessons: Introduction to the world music History. Music in prehistory. Music in antiquity. Monuments and sites in Bohemia. Music of ancient cultures. General factors of musical culture, personality, style development, interpretation, armamentarium. Music of middle Ages (5th -14th century).. The music of the Renaissance (15th -Comp. 17th century.).

The course assumes basic knowledge of the general history and the history of culture.
learning outcomes
1) Knowledge: Knowledge of reality and basic terminology of music history in the early 17th century, remember the main period of development of periodization of music and the main figures in the early 17th century, enumerate and describe the basic types of music in early 17th century. 2) Understanding: Explain the basic terms of music history into the early 17th century, distinguish the basic concept of periodization and interpretation of music industry history, and explain the specific sub-periods, types of musical environment and types of musical 3) Application: Building up of basic overview of the development of music in Europe and the Czech lands in the early 17th century. Each period of musical development, musical types, composers put into general historical, political, social, cultural contexts, etc. 4) Analysis: Comparison and analysis of the specifics of the musical development, musical types, compositional personalities. 5) Synthesis: Summary of the problems of musical development in Europe and in Czech lands in the early 17th century. Identification and formulation of the specifics of the Czech musical development in Europe. 6) Evaluation: Take and assess the main trends in the development of music in the early 17th century. Formulate the basic principles of the formation of Western music into the early 17th century. Summarize the importance of musical development in the early 17th century for the current world music culture
