Course content
1) Historical, social and technological conditions of European overseas expansion 2) A comparative approach to the study of the overseas expansion of the West 3) The symbolic construction of knowledge and understanding of overseas cultures and civilizations 4) Specific colonial policy and the development of European overseas regions 5) Europe and Western civilization in the context of the global system 6) The impact of overseas experience on the development of Western culture and society.

learning outcomes
Students will acquire information and knowledge concerning European overseas expansion in the late Middle Ages, early modern age and at the dawn of the modern era, the specific development of the overseas territories and the wider socio-cultural and political interactions among Western civilization and overseas. Students will be able to apply this competence and knowledge to critical analysis and interpretation of global challenges of contemporary world.
