Course content
1. The specifics of modern historiography on the background of social and political changes, the struggle for a new methodology and theory of humanities, the institutional anchoring of European historical science at the beginning of the 20th century, the historical establishment and historical discourse 2. Trends in historiography at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries; (Gustav von Schmoller, Karl Lamprecht, Friedrich Meinecke, Max Weber, Jacob Burckhardt, Benedetto Croce) 3. The search for the meaning of history in the 20th century, the modern philosophy of history (Oswald Spengler, Ernst Troeltsch, Arnold J. Toynbee, Johan Huizinga) 4. Historiography trends in the first half of the 20th century (Charles Augustin Beard, Frederick Jackson Turner, James Harvey Robinson 5. "Understanding Historiography" - Johan Gustav Droysen, Wilhelm Dilthey, Henri Bergson, Robin George Collingwood 6. Annales and its influence 7. Historical science after 1945 - searching for "New economic history", historical demography, application of qualitative research - oral history, prosopography, specifics of German post-war historiography (Jürgen Kocka, Hans-Ulrich Wehler, John Greville Agard Pocock, Otto Brunner, Reinhart Koselleck, Hans Medick) 8. Postmodern challenge in historiography, return of narrative and "narrative turn" in historiography, interdisciplinary character of modern historical research (Lawrence Stone, Jean-Francois Lyotard, Hayden White vs. traditional historical establishment, Jacques Derrida and deconstruction phenomenon) 9. Microhistory and history of everyday life, gender history, influence of cultural anthropology (especially Carlo Ginzburg, Carlo Poni, Giovanni Levi, Michel Foucault, Jacques Le Goff, Georges Duby, Peter Burke, Joan Scott, Lynn Hunt, Clifford Geertz) 10.
