Course content
- Newton's laws and calculus. - Classical mechanics models - The heat equation in thermodynamics - Radioactive decay in nuclear physics. - Verhulst equation (biological population growth) - Model evaluation (fit to empirical data, scope of model, causality, purpose) - Second order dynamical systems. - Classifying mathematical models (linear vs. nonlinear, deterministic vs. probabilistic, static vs. dynamic, lumped vs. distributed parameters).
